Colors and Color Combinations to Avoid in Web Design

I noticed that certain uses of color give me a particular feeling about a website:
- a lot of white hurts my eyes (since I do most of my web surfing at night)
- too much black looks amateurish
- blue links are usually the way to go (this website uses red links which imediately turned me off)
- any bright version of a color makes me angry
Some of my own personal tips would be to stray away from primary colors, and go for a softer or a more organic version of a color.
I would also say to use colors like you use fonts, pick one main color for your website and stay consistant with it, and then pick a second complimentary color to use. Busy color schemes lead the eye all over the page instead of focusing it on a specific place.
Am I just being picky, or do any of you others have some web design pet-peeves?
